About Us
KAMLA or KamuLayak in Bahasa Indonesia ( meaning ‘you are worthy’) is an Adaptive Clothing Brand designed with patients in mind, to bridge the gap of dignity and function in daily wear.
KAMLA is our humble attempt to make dressing easier, safer and more modest for patients with dressing challenges due to loss or limited mobility.
Dressing is an integral part of self expression and independence. Movement impairment should not restrict daily dressing.
KAMLA aims to recreate patient wear to add positivity to their healing experience.
Kamla supports caretakers, health professionals, hospitals, individuals living in assisted living care, hospitals, Palliative Care and rehabilitation centers.
WHERE DID THE NAME KAMLA COME FROM?
The KAMLA Story
KAMLA is founded by Shanti Vaswani, who has a multi disciplinary background of computer engineering and entrepreneurship. Shanti is also a certified Fit MINDS cognitive coach specializing in aged care like Dementia and Alzhimer’s.
Shanti’s experience of caring and advocating for aged seniors lead her to identify the need to make dressing easier for the elderly and people with reduced mobility.
KAMLA is named after Shanti’s 94 years old grandmother whose strength of character has always been her inspiration. However, as she entered her 9th decade of life her mobility and movement got restricted due to age. She needed assistance for small activities like dressing. Shanti realized that the whole process of assisted dressing was getting time consuming, emotional and not pleasant.
This gave birth to the adaptive clothing brand to honor the legacy and impact of her grandmother by naming KAMLA after her.
Incidently KAMLA is also a portmanteau of the words Kamu and Layak which aligns with the company motto “KamuLayak” which means “You Are Worthy” in Bahasa Indonesia.
The word KAMLA also has a Sanskrit meaning of the lotus flower. Just as the lotus flower blooms inspite of the muddy roots so can a patient thrive inspite of all the dark times in his life. We cannot take out the heartbreak of sickness, but through comfortable, modest and functional clothing designs we can bring little pops of joy in the life of a patient.
Founder Shanti brings a wealth of her background in senior care to the table redefining it through the lens of her grandmother’s journey with assisted living.

Adaptive clothing makes changing clothes easier as it requires less mobility to adjust, remove and put on. The garments focus on keeping motion centralized and close to the body as opposed to stretching your arms, legs or back to adjust them.
